Mold and mildew can be problematic all over the bathroom, and the shower curtain is no exception. Bacteria can also grow on a dirty shower curtain. This can be dangerous for people with respiratory problems, young children and the elderly.
Clean your shower curtain with a cleaning solution that is made to kill mold and mildew. Most materials used in curtains can not be put in the washing machine. Check the cleaning instructions provided by the curtain manufacturer. If the curtain can be washed in a machine, use hot water and some bleach to kill the mold and any other potentially harmful germs.
Once you have removed the mold and mildew, it is important to prevent it from reemerging. Here are some steps you can take to keep the mold away.
1. Make sure your bathroom is well ventilated. Use the vent when you shower. If you do not have a vent, consider installing one or keeping the bathroom window open for a while.
2. After washing your curtain, soak it in salt water before drying. The salt water will help prevent future mold growth as well.
